Where did the Super-Resolution go in vReveal 3?
vReveal 3 uses many of the same multi-frame analysis and scaling algorithms from vReveal 2. Indeed, we are confident the image processing quality in vReveal 3 is superior to vReveal 2. Feel free to compare the two versions (they can both be installed at the same time).
Super-resolution is an over-used and over-abused term in the consumer video industry, and in implies creating a higher-resolution video from a lower-resolution video. This concept was relevant in early 2009 when we first released vReveal, and cell phones took QVGA (320x240) video. At that time the resolution was too small, and consumers wanted their videos “bigger.”
Now that most smartphones take HD (1280x720) video, consumers have the opposite problem: their videos are too big. They don’t need to make their videos any bigger – in fact, they usually want to keep them the same size (or sometimes even make them smaller). Surely, new HD video has “other” problems like shake and noise. We've further refined Stabilization and Clean filters in vReveal 3 to work better and faster with a new generation of video devices, like smatrtphones (e.g., iPhone) and DSLRs.
