vReveal 3 and OpenCL support

For the first time in a consumer app, vReveal 3 introduces a fully optimized OpenCL video processing pipeline.

We'we been working together with AMD for almost a year to bring this exciting new technology to you and the results have been great. On many OpenCL compatible systems vReveal will run between 50% and 300% faster that on CPU alone. You can even process 1080p video in real time (30 fps) on high-end AMD GPUs!

For more details, please see our Press Release

Because of the design of AMD's OpenCL SDK, vReveal's OpenCL code has to be explicitly compiled for each target architecture -- that's why you have a dozen or so .bin files in your Program Files\vReveal folder. The names correspond to AMD GPU architecture; if your card's codename is not there, then your card is not supported in vReveal 3. Please check this Wikipedia Page for the full list of all AMD GPUs and their codenames.

Another place to check if your AMD (ATI) card can be used to accelerate vReveal 3 is on this AMD's OpenCL page. vReveal supports all "Supported Devices", but not those under "Beta Level Support".

If you think that your GPU/APU is compatible with vReveal 3 and you still can't get it to work, try this (several users reported that it helped):

  • Uninstall vReveal 3 (chose "clear settings" when removing it)
  • Update to the latest AMD driver (8.87 as of August 7, 2011). Get the latest driver here.
  • Reinstall vReveal 3. Make sure to get the latest version from our Download page
